SPIRIT
In 1993, I had the privilege, around a campfire behind Byron Bay, of meeting Uncle Peter,
a revered first nation Elder from Cape York. After years of searching for my “visual voice”, wanting to paint my feelings in and of this country, Australia, Uncle Peter gave me a precious gift.
He said “If I was born here and I loved and felt for this country, I should find my mark and tell my story”.
The articulate, profoundly beautiful and rich paintings of the Aboriginal storytellers was and is an endless inspiration to me. Australian born of European descent, I deeply respect their visual language and so began my journey to tell my story in my way of my joy and gratitude for this life, this place, and our shared possibilities to love and respect.
I trust I have honoured Uncle Peter’s gracious gift and that I may have touched a few hearts along the way.
